Curious – what's your portfolio like?

Haha! I'm actually a dividend growth investor so I'm more of a core - satellite scenario whereby my largest holding is an ETF (goal for 50% of the portfolio) and then I have multiple other single stocks. I was actually just planning an exit from one of them that no longer meets my investing criteria. What about you? Does your investment portfolio fall into one of the 3 in your post?

Interesting! I agree with just one ETF strategy btw, so much overlap between many of them plus the fees for the more "exotic" ones are higher than most people realize. My portfolio is more similar to Nassim Taleb's barbell one actually – mix of cash deposits and risky assets. I know bonds and gold would add value to the mix, but I emotionally dislike them. Especially gold – I simply refuse to take part in the collective delusion that it should have value as an asset. Industrial commodity? Sure. Powering chips? You bet. "True money"? No thank you.

Right you are! I hope that people are watching the expense ratios as they will definitely effect their overall portfolio over time. We work too hard to give it away when we can grab a diversified low cost ETF at a 0.06% expense ratio or less! I'm not sure that gold block will help me feed my family! Although it was recently suggested to me that Silver might be a better way to go! :) ha!

Ok i guess i need to take my own advice - check my emotions. Rejecting gold because it has no cash flows seems smart. But i prefer to be wealthy than smart 🥲. The reality is: even institutional allocators look at gold as a viable asset. And it does very well (as the backtest shows) in stagglationary / inflationary environments. Which we might find ourselves in a few years down the line...
